Hi,
I've worked again on my proposal and would like to share with you the current status. Now you /may/ comment ;) You can find it here:

It's much more Applish, or Mozillish than the currently running designs I think. I believe this type of site will attrack less geeky types of people sooner. In the HTML-comments you might follow my reasoning behind the removed links
It's not finished. The content of the upcoming events, news etc. will be designed much like matthews version 5.
I've tested it on IE 6, Firefox 1.0 and Opera 7 (all WinXP) and validated both CSS and XHTML Strict. 'Old browsers' will probably just display the plain content, but I would like to see soms screens of mac/linux machines.
Looking forward to hear your comments.
Ok...
* Generally, I LIKE this quite a bit. The color scheme is soothing and I LOVE the graphic you've chosen. But...you might think of throwing in a complementary color, somehow, to livent higns up just a bit. :)
* The layout is nice and simple, but....I have some rendering problems with the bottom section. Specifically, where is the 'Download' button supposed to be? When I'm in "full-screen" mode (not my normal mode), it gets shoved like on top of the "Upcoming Events" section. In full-screen, it's more where I would expect it to be.
* In the description section (top part) you might think about using some sort of bulleted list to describe the OOo elements rather than the text paragraph...lists emphasize/highlight things better
* Ok, here we go again..."News" vs "In the Media"...wouldn't these represent basically the same thing?
Enough from me on this for a while. Good effort!
* Color
