Using the bad design of other pages as argument why the front page
should fulfill the task instead is invalid.

If the other page is bad, you have to imporve it and not try to
compensate with another page.

They will, if this is the only Link that suggests help.

When I visit sites for apps that I'm interested in, I usually search for
Screenshots (if I don't know the app), the FAQ (if I have a problem),
then other ressources.

Documentation mostly comes with the package.

see above. Don't try to compensate other pages' problems with the front
page.

I as well thing that developers will know how to find their pages, so
better call it "Contributing" (we have a nice contibuting page)

I as well have 1024x768 - but the site should be usable with 800x600 as
well
