Hi Emily,

What you're actually saying is that you're able to deliver the XHTML/CSS in a short time? Most important is that your design also incorporates a side bar for project pages (non-HP pages) which has to be based on current html code for compatibility reasons. Furthermore the body needs to incorporate a table, again for compatibility reasons. The actual website consists of simple html wich is included by the SourceCast system... and these pages may rely on just these two things for proper display. I didn't like this either. Everything else is relatively free. But keep close to content desired.

While we're happy to take suggestions on the design, I would anticipate making only small, incremental changes to the design we've proposed (I realize there are a couple of minor elements that need to be added).

Yes! One of THE major reasons for the current redesign was the desire to focus on "newbies". I think the current design, given it's friendly and clear look, accomplishes this very well.

I've should have demanded that also ;)

If the OOo project wishes to use our design for the new website, we will provide the complete, coded design (with valid XHTML/CSS). We provided the same for the PostgreSQL project - once the design was transformed into XHTML/CSS, it took one hour to change from the old design to the new one.

We have to deal with source cast, which isn't the most ideal cms, but...

I am not sure if we can handle a new design in the relative short time we've got.

No, we can't and we shouldn't attempt this. It comes down to how many "new" designs should we accomodate and what period of time. This is insanity!

So I'm not saying go for it, or don't... My point of view is
still improve what we've got now, but others have made valid points about this flaws of this process. And that's why a new design, which is indeed more balanced currently, might not be a bad idea after all.

Maarten--you are right on! The design we have is what was agreed on by the *overall* project at a given point in time, so let's just proceed with this, making any technical changes and soem content changes that need to be addressed.

Maybe Kay or Louis could take a lead in this? Or have a vote on this?

OK, you got it!

With respect to the footer business that someone brought up. I'm certain this is a sponsorshipt issue which has been raised before. Louis will need to address any suggested changes here, but it's my feeling there won't be any.

Carry on!

g.,

Maarten
