The larger issue is that though we have a terrific archipelago of mirrors, all of whom volunteer their bandwidth, space, effort and time, we do not have load balancing, automatic checking, and so on, so many mirrors are empty when people go there, despite Stefan's and my efforts. Jacqueline McNally and I receive a fair number of posts to webmasters from people who encountered more than one 404. They opt, in the end, for CDROMs. Also, if it ends up making the homepage kludgy, then let's not. And if the new download page does the trick, let's go there.
