[Agreeing to the points Andrew makes]
By the way I don't know if you guys have ever looked at how many people are the responders on the mailing list, an examination of this for OOoForum was recently done. An overview of the findings can be found at http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/User:DrewJensen/why_why . This was part of our planning for the opening of a new user forum for OO.org users ( Sorry Mathias, some people do like web forums and some like mailing lists - different strokes for different folks, I suppose - ;>)
Mailing lists are good for constant contributors. If I only occasionally have a question around OOo, I'd prefer a forum because my inbox doesn't get cluttered and I can easily search existing postings. Forums also usually present a better structure of postings - but do require more administration. But we also win good feedback for filling docs gaps.
