Hi all,
(Andrea, a response to the point you raised is below under proposed
HTML changes - please let me know if I've got it right)

In response to the feedback, I have made some further changes to the
homepage at test.openoffice.org. You can use
http://patentpending.co.nz/openoffice/home.htm as a representation of
the initially proposed changes for comparison. The changes are:

* Icons: In response to Clément and Christoph's suggestions... The
"learn more" action statement now uses the OOo gull icon (instead of
the information icon). The "download" action statement uses a
down-pointing arrow, and the purple man in the "participate" action
statement is now blue. You will probably need to force the page to
refresh to see these changes. Another change is that the icons are
less faded - their opacity has been increased from 50% to 65%.

The down-pointing arrow for the "download" action statement was
quickly put together by me - I didn't want to ask Stella to make icons
that we might not end up using, so I'm asking for feedback first - the
final icon would be more crisp of course.

Personally, I don't like the arrow by itself - the icon used to notify
users of an update to OOo would be better IMO. I like the original
information icon better (with an 'i' instead of the gulls), and would
prefer a life buoy for the help icon... does anyone have a 32x32
version of the Tango life buoy icon? I could only find a 24x24 image.

* Action Statements - the text colors have been switched - the
keywords are darker and everything else is lighter. What do you think
- is it better? worse than before? or is it better to have no keyword
highlighting at all?

* Campaign - the seagull returns, albeit a different design. Do you
like the old one better or is this one OK? Are the colors too strong
(i.e. should the colors be made lighter)?

Now, here is a list of proposed HTML changes:

* Adding "for" to label code in minitabs, and alt for the text box
under 'Search' to improve accessibility

* New download button (Kay, thanks for pointing out that the wrong
download.js was being used! No more annoying messages!)

* Based on Andrea's request, adding id's to the header - for the OOo
logo, we could make it a background image, so that it can be
overridden by CSS for local flavors of the logo, and add an empty <a>
tag with a specified witdth and height so that the current behavior of
clicking on the logo will take you to OpenOffice.org. NL projects
could set this to display:none if they don't want such behavior.
The positioner could also be given an id so that the default one can
be set to display:none on NL pages, and using absolute positioning,
they can add their own positioner text through their HTML... ?

Once again, your feedback would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Ivan.
