I think I found my issue. My nodes are sitting on a table next to each other and I believe the ath9k rate control was getting confused and coming up with 6Mbps. I changed to minstrel and the problem went away, meaning I got the expected performances on 802.11a channels. By the way I use open80211s-0.5 release and my kernel is 2.6.32-rc2. Next I'll run some multi-hop tests and let you know I find. Thanks!
