Yes, I agree. There are very few things of value that differentiate members from any other random person who feels like contributing. Mainly the incoming patch lists, and the NDA documentation which is mostly useless nowadays. Nobody should really care about the documentation issue however, and I understand the patch lists are something undecided for now, which is fine. >One of the big complaints has been that XFree86 has had the >appearance of an exclusive club. Well I for one disagree with those who suggest it should be official XFree86.org policy to use a bug tracker. I think the bug tracker needs to prove itself as being a useful tool for developers first, and that it be something one uses because it makes their life easier, not because they've got an obligation to use it. Also, once in place, should such bug tracker have glitches, or require improvements in some way to be more useful, those types of things are very possible to do. >>We're now being told "show me the money", which is a bit >>different IMHO from times people have suggested it in the past. > >We've now seen with the Linux kernel that it's at least feasible >given someone with deep enough pockets. I can't speak for others who have been interested in a bugzilla for XFree86 before, but I've personally just wanted to see an open mind towards it. To have open mindedness about the idea is a very big difference from being against the idea, and we now are seeing some open mindedness, which is a world of difference IMHO. Someone will post more info here once there has been a chance to discuss with various people who have expressed an interest in the bugzilla project and there's something more concrete to play with.
