Last time I checked Java does have a compiler and compiles to byte

Just because it doesn't compile down to a native binary, it is still

Just had to clear up that confusion.
No confusion here. I know what java does, and I even use a version of
pascal (irie pascal) that does the same thing sometimes, but that's
not the point.
It's still interpreted, because it won't run stand-alone.
And, I did ask that this can of worms not get opened, so I'll say
nothing more on this particular topic.
Everyone has their reasons for using what they use, and that's fine,
that's why there's so many choices.
I just wish we'd get a decent ibuilder-indipendent language to work
with on the mac that can do gui building w/o too much hassle. Java is
the closest thing we have, but it's not what I'm after in terms of
stand-alone executables.
Now, if powerbasic would make an osx version, I'd be happy (or hell,
even a linux version)
Writing terminal programs in osx is easy, so perhaps all we really ned
is a simple-to-implement/easy-to-use library that can hook into the
gui capabilities, and we'd be all set.
open gl and open al don't seem all that simple to me, when all I want
is some simple gui elements such as buttons, image displaying, and the
like.
If someone has something that can do this w/o a lot of jumping through
hoops, then I'll be happy to use it.
