Hello Daniel, just a few additional lines.
In my opinion there really is no difference between the situations. And if a
project is accepted by the MMC, we are talking about a project "within". At
least, if I understand the rules correctly.
What you are explaining in your reply to me, might be one of the major
challenges MMBase is facing. Principally I don't think it matters if
functionality comes from within or not. I would argue that as long as it is
in the interest of MMBase as a whole, well coded, documented, MPL, etc. We
shoulkd just take advantage of the functionality offred. The committers
(mmc) can than upgrade their ambitions for the next release. But that is of
course your decision, not mine.

I have had feedback that people agreed with my comments but that i was confusing and
well i agree sorry about that. Let me be more clear i objected to the reply on 2 points :
1) The 'we are developing ... with partners', It is not the role of the foundation to do that
or to uphold the public image that development is coordinated or the focus point of the
foundation. This has resulted in that alot of outsiders and partners thinking they should
to talk to the foundation for technical matters or when they want to offer help or ask for
features this has resulted in a software crisis at the core of mmbase where many use but
only a few add simple because they are not part of our community (the developers). This is
not a mistake of the foundation but ours, but it doesn't help making public statements that
confuse the issue even more. (note to outsiders this doesn't mean no code is made with/ontop
of MMBase development that is speeding up not slowing down but like other opensource projects
before us the gap between core/default and addons is getting larger).
2) I disagree with your second point, people should atleast try to talk to us before making up plans
and then ask for a vote not for every new 'use' of MMBase but atleast for services and core changes
that are clearly in the realm of what you are talking about. Talking doesn't mean developing by community
that some people seem to be scared of it means testing the grounds, looking for support, adapting your
ideas based on informal feedback. So why did we stop talking on the issue of versioning is the question
to the parties involved.
Greetings,
Daniel.
