OK, try pixel format YUY2 and see what you get.

Sounds like there's a problem with (at least) the YV12 pixel format on
the video overlay.  Perhaps they've changed the meaning of the pixel
format register a bit.

Not supported with DirectFB.  Some support under X via the Unichrome project.
