This just another comment on the issue of pricing to those who feel OpenSRS
is not competitive.
OpenSRS is known for its excellent dependability, reputation, and service.
This allows them to charge a bit more than some of the other registrars that
have been mentioned on this list. A business perceived to be an expert in
the area can charge more than a business without an established reputation.
The market will decide the right pricing for domains. If indeed, there are
better reseller packages out there from other registrars with better or
equivalent reseller interfaces as OpenSRS provides, and their cost is lower,
people will naturally use those services instead. Someone else mentioned a
few registrars located in India that offer cheaper prices for resellers. If
the poster of that message feels that they are offering the same level of
reseller features and service that OpenSRS provides, then I suggest he or
she go with them instead of OpenSRS. It's that simple. If enough people
move to another registrar, OpenSRS will evalute their situation and figure
out the best pricing point to maximize their profitability (which typically
is not maximized by selling at the lowest price).
No one is forcing you to use OpenSRS. If you feel the price is too high but
aren't willing to move to a different registrar, then that means that the
price isn't too high after all. If you run a business, you know that price
isn't everything - otherwise most department stores would go out of
business, and the world would be left with only Walmart stores (or whatever
the discount store chain is in your country).
If you need a web hosting provider, do you go with the one that offers the
absolute lowest price?
Of course not. You ask questions about reliability and 24 hour support, etc.
This message may make me sound like I am loyal to OpenSRS, but I'm not. My
decision to be registered as an OpenSRS RSP is based on quality and service
as much as price. If another registrar offers the same quality and service
but lower price, I will use those services instead. But for myself,
personally, I have yet to find a better deal.
This is all just my own opinion...
