In addition, some businesses outside of the digital realm operate on very
low margins. In Canada, large grocery chains do this. They rely on volume
to make their "profit".
If a company were to sell 5 million domains in one year, and make 50 cents
profit on each name, that would be 2.5 million dollars. If you think 5
million names is alot, well, for e.g., India, has one billion people and
counting.
All that said, i personally would be cautious about registering domains with
a company that operates like that, because it could mean poor customer
service. (not necessarily mean poor customer service.) The well being and
security of my domain names is an extremely important aspect of my
project/business operations.
