True Charles. But Patrick Greenwell made some very good points which I had
already summarised when I suggested or implied that OpenSRS has to look at
more than price - it has to consider its long-term viability.
It seems that most resellers more-or-less agree that domain price
deregulation has had some competitive effects which might have been
expected. They are:
(1) Some sellers are offering ultra-cheap prices (for whatever reason)
(2) Their low price business model is either unsustainable or:
(a) tiny margin on high volume, or
(b) loss leader on other, related services
(3) This puts great competitive pressure on resellers esp. small ones
(4) One possible way out is for OpenSRS to cut its wholesale price a bit
(5) But objectively this is likely to be a temporary solution at best
(6) This is because long-term viability is unsustainable in a price war
(7) Unless something is done resellers are going to be hit hard esp. in
India
(8) And that's something that OpenSRS should give serious thought to.
(9) Because ultimately their own viability depends on that of their
resellers.
Of course, I don't wish to imply that senior management of OpenSRS has not
fully considered these matters in their own business plans and/or models.
Regards
Patrick Corliss
