And there are companies here in the US and in Europe doing the same.
And we still compete with them just fine. Price alone is not the
issue. Diversify. Don't try and do it with domain names alone,
because as you can see, you can't compete on that front alone. So you
have to provide the value add. That is what you are, a Value Added
Reseller. So provide other reasons for people to do business with
you, diversify. Or bite the bullet and become ICANN accredited and
take those companies head on. But as long as can't go that route, you
will never win a price war with them. And for that reason alone, you
shouldn't even try. You should diversify and make your value added
services such a draw that the minor issue of a few dollars a year on a
domain name is nothing.

I'm giving away domain names right now (restrictions apply, meaning
yes, this is a catch). I also am including an offer to get a free one
year extension to registered domain names when someone registers a
domain name, and they accept an offer from one of our sponsors. It
brings their out of pocket costs to under $7.50 a year, and we will
make more than we would had they paid for both years.

In other words, part of being in business is being creative. Find a
way to make it work, so that price is not the handicap you seem so
insistent on making it. Being in business is a challenge, and you
have to get creative with how you approach your strategies. OpenSRS
only provides one set of tools for that, the domain name service. The
challenge is in what you will do with it. If all you do is put up the
scripts, and hope that it will make a business on its own, don't count
on it. Take some initiative and responsibility for creating your own
business model and for making it work. And for some of you, that may
mean you can't make it work with OpenSRS. It won't be right for
everyone.

Surely you see that the constant harping on the price issue is not
getting anywhere? (unless frustration of list members is one of your
goals :) So now you have to decide if you can make it work, or not.
Get those creative juices flowing.
