I understand that Tucows doesn't want to be left in the cold... I
certainly don't object to them holding something back.
But if I send an order in for 100 tickets of domain mydomain.biz,
then I should only have to pay the holding fee on the first ticket.
The above would be the simplest way of handling it.
Now, if I charge clients for tickets, with the hope of invoicing
them later - I could potentially be left in the cold myself, and
this is a concern. But having to pay $10 holding fee for each and
every ticket (refundable or not) is far-more damaging to our
business than potential defaulters. We can always charge enough
on tickets to cover defaulters, but we simply don't have the
capital to sell lots of tickets under the current setup.
Also, I would imagine that defaulting on payment would be less of a
risk for OpenSRS than for us - since if an RSP defaults, you can
lock them out and essentially close their business. I'm not saying
Tucows should take that risk - but as it now stands, they're simply
transferring all risk to us.
We need to sell lots of tickets. We don't have the capital to pay
a $10 holding fee on each one. Having a holding fee on every ticket
essentially shuts us down (unless we have lots of cash lying around).
The only way I can see at the moment, is to have the holding fee -
BUT NOT on every ticket - that's just absurd.
