After reading the section about "autorenew" in the contract at
http://www.icann.org/tlds/agreements/info/registry-agmt-appc-i-26apr01.htm
there is no doubt that it is a mechanism of convenience for V$ and the 
Registrars, rather than the tender of any type of ownership rights to the 
Registrar.
