Aye, there's the rub. If this WLS proposal goes through, anyone that wants a WLS will have to do business with Verisign/SnapNames, and so your clients will have no choice that SnapNames gets a fee. So far, I think some of the market participants (registrars, registry, SnapNames, consumers, OpenSRS RSPs, ICANN) might want to take a step back and rank the proposals in order of their preference, from "highest" to "lowest". (four stars for highest rank, three stars for second highest, two stars for 3rd highest, and 1 star for lowest). 1) Verisign/Snapnames WLS Proposal - 2) Afternic auction proposal 3) Status Quo Proposal 4) Let's make George Kirikos a Multi-Millionaire proposal I vote the ranks as follows: **** Let's make George Kirikos a Multi-Millionaire *** Status Quo ** Afternic Auction * Verisign/SnapNames WLS Proposal I predict that "Status Quo" will end up winning, not because it is the TOP choice of everyone, but instead that it is at least the second highest choice of most everyone (if not the highest). By the way, when I say "Status Quo", I include in that the possibility that Verisign will finally implement all those technical fixes that everyone has been suggesting for months... although it's not mandatory.
