You seem to forget that in your examples neither the farmer nor the owner of 
the painting get a penny, they forfeit their rights to the notary that helped 
them register the deeds of ownership, i.o.w. the owners (previous at that 
moment) get zilch and the notary, bank or whoever registered the deed gets 
all proceeds
