Your taking this TOO far out of context. All I am saying is, that if
Cellular One for example sent a letter to a Verizon wireless client, saying
"Call Cellular One Today to see how much you can be saving!" then that is
not illegal. Yes, their are probably some consumers that might not take
account that, IF they have that number published on business cards they
would have to re-place those cards and any other documents that the number
MIGHT be published on and switch. But that is the consumers fault for not
considering that. I whole heartedly agree with everyone in regards to it is
not a "Good" practice to send these letters, but this one from "DNR" is not
as far of a scam as all the others.
Lets start over... Let's say you owned a restaurant, and you already had
a supplier for your fountain drink cups. You are currently paying 2 cents a
cup and you get a letter from a company/supplier saying we can provide to
you cups for 1.5 cents. Is that illegal for that company to approach you and
attempt to get you to buy their cups for 1.5 cents?
What if a domain registration company just sent a simple letter out with
no expirations etc, and no domain names even. And it just simply said,
"Domain Registrations for as low as $15 a year. Would that be against the
law? I know all of these letters are starting out "Very Deceptive" but I see
them slowly getting less deceptive.
Don't get me wrong, we are not engaging any of these practices. (We
couldn't even see how profits would raise when you look at the cost of
supplies, man hours and postage are paid!) But, I am just concerned that
people may be throwing a few of these letters "WAY" out of proportion. I
have sent the letter that we received to DomainScams.Com for your review,
and it has a couple lines that shouldn't be their, but not nearly as many as
the Veri guys letters....
But, I am going to leave the issue be as I am sure a lot of people are
not interested in the topic but I am curious of other opinions if they would
like to discuss it off-list. People seem to wine about topics filling their
mail box up and they don't seem to "Delete" them if they don't like the
subject ;) So if their are any more thoughts, feel free to reply off list.
