Maybe another point of view will help here... the 45 day grace period allows a registrar to delete a domain without being charged for it by the registry. At anytime during those 45 days, the registrar can tell the registry, okay go ahead and delete the domain, and the registry will delete it. This could occur on day 1, day 45 or any day inbetween. The grace period is for payment only, not to be able to retrieve the domain after the registrar has given the go ahead to delete it. The registry can delete it at anytime after the registrar has said so. Tucows chooses to tell the registry to delete 40 days after expiry for reasons already stated. > Anyway, in this case it was broken and we should be able to do something > about that. As I see it, the system worked as designed. Tucows said go ahead and delete the domain 40 days after expiry and it appears the registry did just that.
