In fairness, this depends on the search engine used... In many cases Google does a decent job at finding a .net or .org when you type in a single word and it turns out the .com isn't the most popular choice. Type in "radiant" for instance, and the first hit is radiant.net -- radiant.com is rather useless. Alas, before my time, I've only been professionally involved in the domain registration industry since ICANN was born, prior to that I was simply a single domain holder. -- I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure.
