People who remix, and who appreciate the value of remix, know it as
another form of creation. But I think that what you present to the
world by emphasizing "cut, copy, paste" out of context -- to people
who don't think of cutting, copying, and pasting as part of creation,
and may even think of it as stealing -- is an incomplete picture.

I suppose for any material it's just considering who your audience is
-- the conference site, for example, is mostly going to be seen by
people who intend to go, or are already interested. (And it's a clever
and visually appealing design.)  If I were trying to show someone from
the traditional IP world what Free Culture is about, though, I would
want to emphasize the elements of original creation that make the
cut-copy-paste into a new artistic work.
