Ok, thanx for the explanation.
What are these couple of programs requesting the caching info?
The machine did not face the issue for months, than did it once.
This time, the machine has been up for just one week (we had a maintenance
shutdown last week).
Can't see what is the software causing this request.
Is there any other way to completely block this call and let it respond a
specific value?
In my case, controller caches are all disabled, and the system knows it via the
"no cache flush".

Hi,
yes, I already found this, and asked about it last time, but had no answer.
Do you think this may be a dangerous issue? Should I not use the adaptec board?
This is an omission in the driver code, it's not dangerous, as a couple of
programs only want to know if the controller is caching, and get no answer,
but fm registers that as an error, and after some count limit tries to
retire the device.
I usually check often 'fmadm faulty' and give it a 'fmadm repair
'
before the next reboot where this will actually do harm in our case
(as the rpool is on the controller and it cannot retire).
In your case, nothing vital to fm and rpool are on that controller, so
it actually suspends, which is more unpleasant.
So you should request a fix to include support for that SCSI command (and
mention the aac driver also ...)

Same symptom as for the aac driver, see
