As far as I know from the online docs, this can be an issue if the "no-battery" 
controller has his own cache enabled.
I totally disabled caching on the controller, on each disk.
This way, I'm sure that when zfs issue a sync request, data is nowhere else but 
the disks.
Correct me if I'm wrong....................................................

You risk to loose your pool due to power loss.
