Thanks for your comments. Prototype engineering... wars have been
fought over this issue. I tried to express that in the article.
Specifically, where does prototype engineering fit - is it in or out
of UX design? - Out being on the development team or away from design
process.

I'm finding the more "rich" my design gets, the more directly I
need to communicate every detail. If I have prototype engineering in
my design process, I'm way better off than trying to convey it all
in a document or even wireframe. And I'm talking pretty hi-fidelity
prototyping that I can't do with Axure or another tool. Time
constraints don't allow it.

As far as your list, number 3 is what I'm trying to address in the
article. And that's pretty close to mine.
