Some members have suggested using the IP address as a default pre-fill for the country field.
The benefit of this approach is that for the majority of users, they pre-fill selection will be right, saving them from modifying one of the form's fields. However, it may not be correct where a router, proxy or cache is involved. Also,pre-filling the field could lead to other problems. Blank fields are a visual indicator of where data has yet to be entered. Users may therefore skim over pre-filled fields, as their mental model says "that's already done". Using IP address is also not as simple as it may sound.
