Yes as suggested by AJ, progressive errors is a good idea. But displaying errors when user tabs out ... how or where to show when you have three column of fields. Floating layers along with the field seems to be one solution.
But it might be a pain if user decides to go ahead with the error or warning for later revision. Soon he might end up with bubbles all over the screen. Extreme case but just in case.
