True, but it's so much *easier* to mess up on a survey. 

Designing a good quant study is hard, and any reputable book on survey
design will tell you that you should start by running a qual study on the
same topic. They usually describe this stage as 'interviewing' or
'piloting', but a look under the covers reveals: voila, good old usability
testing.
