I'm afraid this will leads designers' work into a trap, if the designer really assumes the "tech driven is right". But as a tactic, designer could avoid such fruitless discussion ( like, "No, xxx should be user needs/motivation driven instead of tech driven" ) , with a user centered driven mind-set in the core, and push the product development going. As the result, more than less, user centered driven methods will push tech's improvement as many designers found, which will convince tech/engineering side co-workers.
