Jumbo frames, and MTU tweaks are really just to squeeze the last few percentage of performance out of an existing connection. Sometimes it'll make a little difference, but it'll never amount to more than 5%. Unless you have a truly idiotic protocol, which sends a single maximum sized packet, then waits for acknowledgement of every packet before sending the next one.
