I guess I won't show you the 27 8x10 color glossy photographs with
circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one, showing our
fancy plan to fragment LOPSA email list presence, which we paid a
consultant a ton of money to produce! :-)

I kinda feel this thing has been blown out of proportion so I couldn't
agree with you more, Tom. On the other hand, I personally *want* LOPSA
direction and actions to be more membership-driven; in that regard, I
think it's always good to see LOPSA folks talking things like this.
However, in case there's some question, I can assure you I haven't been
sitting around trying to figure out how to generate mailing list
flamewars about mailing lists.

Tom asked if there's a problem we're trying to solve. It's less of a
specific problem and more of what I thought might be a good idea:
provide and advertise a communication venue for unofficial LISA chatter,
which would hopefully be useful to some people and maybe just pick up a
couple of new members in the process.

If we're tearing apart the fabric of space and time (or, more seriously,
damaging relationships or organization brands) by the creation and
announcement of this email list for LISA attendees, I'd like to
understand that so we can stop it from happening. All kidding aside,
we're just trying to do something small but helpful here.

Otherwise, I'd just like to see if this email list stuff is useful to
anybody next week at LISA as it's something we haven't tried before.

Matt
