I think this is a really good point: "Drive" and "age" may often
correlate, but they're certainly not linked. There are plenty of
22-year-old slackers, and plenty people in their fifties who are full of
fire and ready to kick some ass.

Talking to someone is a good way to figure out if they have the drive
you're looking for; glancing at their birthdate isn't. (And as John points
out, may be illegal too -- certainly if you do it that overtly.)
