A little rosetta stone for lights out devices from different hardware vendors:
Supermicro - IPMI Supermicro's IPMI solution, usually bundled with motherboards ending in +. No need for crazy licensing, either you have the card or you don't. The virtual cdrom / floppy is more finicky than the others about client side os and firmware version. IBM - RSA / IMM Described previously I think everything has transitioned to IMM now, and there is 3 levels of licensing. The intermediate license is included on mid-range and above xseries. The advanced gets you video + virtual io devices. Dell - DRAC I don't have a lot of experience with these, the older ones that I've worked with were awful and needed a wall wart to drive the cards functions when the server was turned off. Ever since 2005ish I've managed to talk all of my purchasers out of buying dell gear. HP - iLO HPs has always been nice, but again there is 2? levels of licensing currently basic and advanced. Sun/Oracle - ILOM In general, serial emulation with text console is included in the base license. ---- Daniel Murphy-Olson Systems Administrator Mathematics & Computer Science Division Argonne National Laboratory 630-252-0055 ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Allan West" <[email protected]> > To: "Jo Rhett" <[email protected]> > Cc: [email protected] > Sent: Monday, December 10, 2012 1:28:08 PM > Subject: Re: [lopsa-discuss] IP KVM and PDU Recommendations > On 12/9/12 6:20 PM, Jo Rhett wrote: > > On Dec 5, 2012, at 7:08 PM, Allan West wrote: > >> We've got Raritans on the machines with RSA or IMM adapters because > >> sometimes, when you really need them, they aren't responsive.
