My wife works for a non-profit organisation that helps mentally challenged people. They have a very small budget and not many employees. I helped them get setup when they expanded and when they moved so they didn't have to pay a contractor. Now once in a while I help if they have a virus infection on their network. The Director General has gotten pretty good with technology and does a lot on his own now.
It's more rewarding to do pro-bono stuff for people that actually contribute back to society. After doing some investigation on this last night, I wrote a blog entry this morning: http://www.standalone-sysadmin.com/blog/2013/01/sysadmins-do-you-do-pro-bono-work/ I've found that a lot of professionals are expected, by their professions, to do some amount of pro bono work. I was wondering how wide-spread this is in system administration. I've done my share of fixing relatives' computers, but this wouldn't count as pro bono work according to the standards of the American Institute of Architecture or the American Bar Association, where they consider things like financial need, tax status, and so on. I was curious what members of LOPSA do. I think I *should* do pro bono, but I hadn't really considered it until the other day. What do you think? --Matt -- LITTLE GIRL: But which cookie will you eat FIRST? COOKIE MONSTER: Me think you have misconception of cookie-eating process. _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list [email protected] https://lists.lopsa.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/discuss This list provided by the League of Professional System Administrators http://lopsa.org/ _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list [email protected] https://lists.lopsa.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/discuss This list provided by the League of Professional System Administrators http://lopsa.org/
