A few years ago, before there was a LOPSA chapter in Baltimore/DC area, I
got involved with the Baltimore chapter of AITP
<http://baltimoreaitp.org/> hoping
they would be a group similar to what LOPSA is. However, what I found was
that they were a very different organization (at least in Baltimore).

The couple meetings I went to had topics like "What is social media and how
should we be using it?" and "Using an outsourced IT department". These
weren't the technical topics I was seeking which lead me to cofounding the
Crabby Admins.

I don't know if the Baltimore chapter is an anomaly but what I found here
was the average attendee was 50+ and no longer involved in actual technical
work rather they were IT leaders several levels removed from the actual
technical work.

Still a great group and it is amazing the chapter here in Baltimore has
been around since 1951. However, it wasn't what I was looking for and I
don't think there is a lot of overlap between AITP and LOPSA.
