Those adapters still only run on 5v just like the USB specification but just at higher amperage not voltage, and that's total throughout amperage not exactly what the device is using. If they had an adapter with USB with a higher voltage good chance it would fry the device. So I'm still not getting how a spec such as FireWire could output higher than 12v when that's what it's main power supply provides? Besides the additional -12 v which has a weak sauce amperage value.
