People with range problems should look into getting a Linksys and then
running the Sveasoft firmware on it. The Sveasoft firmware allows for
(an illegal in the US) power boost for the transmitter. My WAP54g now
gets 100% coverage where I need it in my 2000 sq. ft. house - I have not
tried the kitchen in a while, but this is a very recommended free or $20
upgrade (I paid since it was a good thing).

I could imagine though that 11g would give better range and signal

that maybe at some point I should replace my (belkin) 11b router with
an 11N
router, also for range. Any thoughts on that?
If you want more range and signal strength look into building a
directional antenna.
Or get an 11g game adapter. But you only need to do that if you're
having problems.
I'm actually considering getting an old 11b AP so I can use my 11g AP
for other things.
