Eeh there is one argument not investigated here when people say that a
squeezebox would not gain anything by being a N device.

If you have *one* squeezebox and one accesspoint/router i totally get
the argument the speed needed is lower then 801.11g anyway.

But how many squeezeboxes playing flac could in a best case scenario be
connected to one AP/router if 801.11g where used ?

In my home i get a reliable 3000kbps mostly if i do the speed test
(sometimes 4000 ) that means at best 4 players practically 3 players i
also play 24/48 flac wich is almost around 1500 and in paractice it
works reliable with 2 wifi players, if I use 128kb mp3 i could have 20
players or could I ? have i understood this correctly ?

So 3 wifi players simultaneously playing CD quality streaming music
thats not so fantastic ?

Then how much faster is the N standard if a squeezebox theoretically
could support N, how many of these could simultaniusly play 16/44.1 flac
from one AP/router ?

In a practical setup you ofcourse wire as many players as possible
(takes far less time than fiddling with wifi problems, drill hammer
nails connectors etc get practical for once).

Then you would add more access points setting up more than one network
and divide the remaining players between the network, is this the
correct approach ?

But I think there is a valid argument for an N standard squeezebox,
given that most people only have one ap/router and expect everything
they have to connect to the same radio. I don't know how the user base
looks like but on this forum most users seems to have a lot of
squeezeboxes.

But i do understand why there is no such device *now* the very small
scale of the squeezebox operation compared to router manufacturing they
make 10 of millions of them probably . We probably see an N squeezebox
when there is a ready made reliable well proven chip solution to source
for it, and a set of (linux) drivers for it.
