If used correctly it only writes RG *tags* to the music file -- it doesn't alter the audio data itself whatsoever. However, it is very easy to use it incorrectly and alter the audio data. You may have done that. If so you can still undo it if you've retained all the relevant info. Anyway, it's dead-easy to use foobar2k to set RG if you choose to go that way, and it does it well.
