The data itself are only tags no manupilation of the audio data has
been done,so you can choose to turn the function on and off in sbs. If
don't have rg and smart gain "on" nothing will happen when using this
function sbs is doing the same thing as you would do, increasing or
decreasing the volume.

The theoretical impact on sq is that rg usually lowers the volume to
match the levels so it has the same sq "issues" as lowering the volume,
you get a tiny bit closer to the noise floor of the player, if that is
an issue is sytem dependent but usually it's of no consequence.

Note we are talking 16bit "CD" here the SB operates in 24 bits, 24bit
files is another matter.

If you are using the squeezebox own volume it can not be of any
consequence as you will have compensated the generally lower track
volume by setting the players volume higher .

I have a somewhat more complicated user case, I have a 24bit capable HT
processor with it's own digital volume (internal processing is 64bit
floating point). I'm using the digital outputs of my SB
So if we are talking 16 bit here if I use RG or lower the volume I can
compensate by increasing the volume of HT processor, thus it will
teoretically be transparent for me.
Note as long as we are on 16 bit resolution, a to big decrease would
shave of more than 8 bits.
Is someone here good at the math regarding this how many dB lower is
16bit compared to 24bit ?

Or the short version "no rg should not interfere with sq" excuse my
ramblings :) somebody with better English will soon post a more tidy and
intelligible version of what I just said.

Main hifi: SB3 (soon to replaced by a Touch :) It is on preorder)
Bedroom/Office: Boom
Kitchen: Receiver (soon to be replaced by my SB3 and the SBRto be
stuffed in a box in the attic )
I use a Controller various ir-remotes and a Eee-PC with squeezeplay to
controll this
