Adding the tags has of course no consequence at all (they're just
tags).

When using them, it all depends on the degree of purism :) Some people
claim the digital volume has to be fixed at 100%. If you belong to that
group, RG is a no no.

I almost always play complete albums, so only album gain is used. The
effect of RG is essentially that the digital volume is adjusted
according to the Replay Gain value; in general this means it is set
lower. With albums with positive Replay Gain, the volume is set higher
(which will of course not work if the volume is set at 100%). The
applied positive gain can be lower than the RG tag requires: with some
discs applying the complete RG would result in clipping. On the Web UI
this is mentioned (something like RG: x.x, adjusted to x.x).

Like others, I'm very happy with RG; in general it works great. But
like cliveb said, it does not adjust the volume within an album (when
using Album gain) or a track (when using track gain). Any purist
would'nt mind this, because adjusting the volume there would ruin the
music and would only be acceptable for the given example of car driving.
Purists surely should avoid playing a Mahler symphony or the mentioned
cd 'Amused to Death' in a car. [Can't you see / it all makes perfect
sense / expressed in dollars and cents / and shillings and pence ...
