Time to add more complications :) the Controller can be bought.
separately and it can controll ANY squeezebox including the touch .

Many replaces the Controller with suitable iPhone or andriod apps that
are said to be even better by their fans.

The old killer combo was actually an SB3 (aka SB Classic) with an
controller.
The recievers lack of a real user interface can make it hostile to
setup or change things in the setup.

The Touch has Support for 24bit 96kHZ both digitally and on analog out
the receiver has 24/48 .
Touch supports more audio file formats in the box most noticeable AAC,
less need for the server to transcode .
The software (linux) running the Touch is much more flexible and will
get constant upgrades and it is easier to add new formats etc.

The Receiver part of the duet is an old design in maintenance mode not
much will be done with it in the future.

I have not compared the actual sound on CD quality material .
But the hardware design is improved better DAC in the Touch ,better
design of digital output, but I have not listened side by side even
thou i have all of them SB3,reciever,Touch someday when I retire.. (if
the boxes still works)
