I had previously tried the WifiKeepAlive app, but none of it's settings made any difference. At first, I thought workarounds 3 and 4 had done the trick, but my playlist had moved on to an album of mp3s. I wondered whether it was wifi related as I was connected to a different router. As I said, there are no problems with my home network. I see that the amount of time would be much greater before the buffer is emptied with mp3 as opposed to flac, but I was able to play continuously without issue and when I turned the screen on the buffers were full. I had accessed the nas during my tests and I could see that playing an mp3 produced a constant output whether the tablet screen was on or off, but playing a flac file showed constant output with screen on and no output with screen off. When screen was turned back on there was a spike in output from the nas as buffers were quickly filled. I am now thinking that the issue may server related and maybe I need to take some additional steps for it to function correctly through the vpn. I will provide a logcat, when I'm next away as my router cannot be filled into thinking I am connecting externally. Thanks for your support.
