The tricky part about tagging is that there are a lot of different
tagging formats for music files and it's easy to introduce some bug in
the tag writing logic that accidentally destroys the tags because they
have been written with som unusual tagging software or tagging format
previously. There are a lot of examples like this when tagging gets more
advanced, one is that some tagging software I've tried have had a
tendency to remove multiple genres and only write back one genre to the
music file.

Based on this, I think it would be ok to implement a solution that
allows editing of database content, like SMD project was intended to
work, but I doubt we are going to focus on writing anything to the
actual music files in the near future, the risk of trouble is just too
large and it requires extensive quality assurance. However, if there is
some third party developer reading this who would like to to experiment
with it and give us some help to create the necessary communication
protocols to support it, please let us know.

My only comment at the moment is that our slogan "A world of music at
your fingertips !" does have a meaning :-)
