Do you maybe also have a "guest mode" network mode that allows your iPad
access to the Internet but not to the internal network?

Did you disable all routing functionality on the "secondary" router so
that it acts purely as an access point (especially no DHCP!)? You do use
different SSIDs, right?

That the primary router shows devices on the secondary router as
connected through LAN is normal because from the perspective of the
primary router that's what they are: they come in through the secondary
router's LAN connection.
