I had a broadly similar issue with an iPod touch when my main router was changed. In my case I completely removed any settings relating to my WiFi connection on the iPod, rebooted and then reconnected from scratch. This resolved my issue.
The other thing I believe can cause issues with iThings is if your SSID is one of the standard settings (like netgear for example) as I understand iOS can try and be too clever and prevent certain things if connected to a standard SSID.
