Many people say that they have power cuts that don't corrupt the SD card. It's just a matter of luck I think. I plug my rPi into a Uninterruptible -Power- Supply (-UPS-), which will keep supplying power from battery for 30 minutes or so. This solves the short power cuts (which we have here in Florida with thunderstorms, etc.). Another thing you might do is make backup copies of your SD card.
