I read through this thread, and thought I would offer a thought. I ran
lms only (no player) on pCP with a USB HHD library. I initially moved
the LMS cache and prefs to the USB HDD. We have frequent power failures.
Everytime (I thought) I had to do a rebuild, unintally/reinstall LMS,
etc, but what was really happening is the pcp would come back up and not
be able to find the HDD to properly start/run (?) LMS. I finally
streamlined my thrashing about to unmounting, then remount the HDD and
things would be fine.

I then moved the LMS Prefs and Cache back to the SD, and no more
remounting. When power comes back up I still have to do a
shutdown/restart to get the time issue resolved but...

Further Paul- suggested I use a 3rd partition for LMS data (in case of
corruption, the pcP partition is not affected), and that is what I do.

So, I guess the reason for my post (after all that) - are you sure you
have to rebuild, or do you have a situation like mine? Where is your
caches/prefs?

Jim
