I use one of these

UGREEN USB C Adaptor Type C Female Adapter to USB 3.0 A Male Converter

Therer are other makes available

One needs to have a line-jack inserted in the Apple device (to activate
it) otherwise it isnot recognised :rolleyes:

Currently I use a rpi SPDIF output into a very old Quad CDP-2, using the
variable audio out into Active speakers (TV optical into the Quad)
